PRESIDENT DODON RESPONDS TO SHOR PARTY’S ALLEGATIONS

16 august, 2019

President Igor Dodon reminded that the head of state has no right to order Prosecutor General to withdraw parliamentary immunity from any of MPs. He said this as commentary to the Shor Party’s statements that the de-immunization of Ilan Shor would be president’s personal revenge.

“The opposition MPs got used to the fact that the previous authorities were giving such orders from their office on the Armeana Street [former party headquarters of the DP], but the current ruling coalition does not resort to such practices”, Dodon said.

He said that the question of withdrawing deputy immunity was discussed at the Wednesday’s sitting of the Supreme Security Council, saying that a lot of criminal cases have been started on the stealing of the billion, the power usurping, other offenses. The president said that if prosecutors will have insufficient evidences to continue the process (of withdrawing immunity from MPs) and will need Supreme Security Council’s help, they may address at any time.

Answering to journalists’ questions, Dodon said that he never took any money from Ilan Shor, while all the statements made earlier by the Shor Party in this direction were a part of election campaign and one has to regard them accordingly.

Dodon also spoke on the appointment of two judges to the Constitutional Court by the Parliament – Vladimir Turcan and Domnica Manole, saying that contest should have not been conducted for the sake of contest, but if the process has been started, it must be respected. President also said that he respects Nicolae Esanu [the initial candidate for CC] – a real professional. However, he said that he has no right to challenge the MPs decision and the fact that new judges have already been sworn in.

Answering to journalists’ questions, he said he is seeking an Advisor for Legal Issues, as the previous advisor Maxim Lebedinschi became secretary of the Central Election Commission.

“This must be a good professional. The most important criterion is professionalism, no matter the authorities one worked with”, Dodon stressed.
