PRESIDENT DODON PREPARES FOR UN GA SESSION, WRITES SPEECH BY HIMSELF

23 september, 2019

Moldova President Igor Dodon has already written the speech he will make from the tribune of the United Nations General Assembly Session in New York later this week, he announced during the “Friday with Anatoly Golea” live program cast weekly over the RTR-Moldova television channel.

“This is an address very important for me. I put aside all my other deeds, and focused on writing the document. This will be a good speech, you will see”, promised the head of state.

Answering Anatol Golea’s question if he had coordinated the speech text with the Government or Foreign Ministry, Dodon replied: “The speech will contain the position of the head of state. If somebody wants the Foreign Ministry or somebody else to write a speech for the President to be delivered from the United Nations tribune, I can say that such things don’t work with Dodon. I have written myself the address to the United Nations to present the position of our country”.

Concerning the UN Resolution of 2018 that contained a demand to pull out Russian troops from the Moldovan territory, President Dodon made it clear that he is not going to touch on this question in New York.

“You know that due to a change of power in Moldova, the situation has changed. For the first time over last 15 years, Russia has proposed to resume the disposal of and recycling of the ammunition with expired storage life [kept at the Kolbasna military depot in Transnistria]. This is very important”, stressed Igor Dodon.

The Moldovan President will be staying in New York on September 23-27.

“I am leaving for the United States for a working visit to last nearly a week and to consist of many events. The main of them will be my address from the United Nations tribune to the UN General Assembly Session. While in New York, I will hold meetings with leaders and U.S. leadership representatives. I regard this voyage as perhaps the most important one in 2019 from the viewpoint of realization of our course for a weighted external policy”, Dodon wrote on his Facebook page on Monday.

Concerning a possible snap parliamentary election in case of a break-up of the incumbent governing PSRM-ACUM coalition, Igor Dodon offered an opinion that the snap election must be held on the basis of the proportional representation system.

“The Constitutional Court must say its word on this. Actually, in the current situation it is advantageous for the Party of Socialists to run for parliament by the mixed election system. But this is not correct because our Parliament has already voted for canceling the mixed election system”, stressed the President.
