02 octomber, 2019

French Secretary of State for European Affairs Amelie de Montchalin addressed to the Parliamentary Assembly of the Council of Europe (PACE) in Strasbourg, calling on the Assembly to support the new Moldovan Government in the process of reform implementation.

She reminded that in June the change of power took place in Moldova, while the new Government should receive support from the PACE in combating corruption and strengthening the supremacy of law.

"The Council of Europe's actions in the field of law are an asset, which must be applied quite specifically. I mean the Republic of Moldova I visited on September 13 to express France's support and, I suppose, the support of everyone who is present here, for reforms conducted by the new Government", the French diplomat said.

She stressed that the Moldovan Government regards the strengthening of public order and implementation of the justice system as its priority.

"All of us should support it, because this is a difficult task and the Council of Europe is aimed at playing an important role in this. I welcome the fact that the Moldovan Government filed a request to the Venice Commission for the draft reform of justice", Amelie de Montchalin said.

As Infotag has already reported, the French diplomat visited Moldova on September 12-13. During the trip, she stressed the France's complete support to the EU liabilities to Moldova, which plays a key role in the regional stability of European Union' Eastern Neighbors. She called on Moldovan authorities to strengthen efforts on fulfilling the EU-Moldova Association Agreement, especially in combating corruption, establishing the supremacy of law and justice independence.
