CHISINAU’S FORMER ACTING MAYOR CHALLENGES IN COURT REFUSAL TO REGISTER HIM AS CANDIDATE FOR MAYOR

02 octomber, 2019

Former Acting Mayor of Chisinau Ruslan Codreanu has challenged in court the electoral bodies’ decision to deny registration to him as a candidate for Chisinau Mayor at October 20 local elections, he stated to journalists.

Codreanu reminded that the decision not to register him was taken by the Chisinau Election Board and, later on, the Central Election Commission left it in force. Their motivation was as follows: out of the 10.5 thousand citizens’ signatures raised in his favor, over a thousand were recognized as void. According to the law, a candidacy seeker must submit minimum 10 thousand valid signatures for registration as candidate.

Ruslan Codreanu regarded the denial decision as unlawful, and addressed to the Chisinau Appeals Court for justice. His interests in the Court will be defended by lawyer Cristina Tarna, a former Deputy Director of the National Anti-Corruption Center (NACC).
