ROMANIAN PARLIAMENTARIAN PROPOSES 10 SOLUTIONS FOR MOLDOVA

03 octomber, 2019

Constantin Codreanu, a Member of the Parliament of Romania from the Popular Movement Party, who was born and raised in Moldova, has stood up with an initiative called "A Decalog for Moldova", in which he formulated 10 solutions that should be put into life in the interests of the Republic of Moldova population.

Speaking in the Romanian Parliament's Chamber of the Deputies, Codreanu proposed to create a "Moldova Fund" to thus have a possibility to render financial assistance directly to Moldovan local communities.

"Financing through the central Government of Moldova has turned out to be a big mistake", Codreanu said, having reminded about the facts of distribution of financial means proceeding from the political affiliation of mayors and raion chairpersons, and about the exorbitant expenditures indicated in the budgets of realized projects, which he believes is evidence to a poor funding management.

In his opinion, at providing financial assistance for Moldova, Romania should condition it with a necessary return of the Bessarabian Metropolitan See's property to Romania and with the rehabilitation of "the cemeteries of Romanian heroes, fallen behind the Prut River [i.e. in the Republic of Moldova territory]".

The deputy proposed to double the budget of the Ministry for Romanians Abroad "to support the projects realized in the Republic of Moldova, thus promoting the preservation and promotion of the Romanian identity".

"Bearing in mind that there are over 800 thousand citizens of Romania living in the Republic of Moldova, a necessity is obvious to create electoral district #44 for them. I hope that already in the next Romanian Parliament we will have two deputies and one senator to be elected in that district in order to thus ensure yet a greater involvement of Bessarabians into Romania's political life. We, Romanians from the Second Romanian State, must be not only fit for voting, but must also have our representatives in the Parliament in Bucharest", stated Constantin Codreanu, stemming from Moldova.

Among his other proposals are: to found a Ministry for Ties with the Republic of Moldova; to facilitate an access to the Romanian labor market for ethnic groups from the left Prut River bank having no Romanian citizenship; to restore the 14 bridges across the Prut "demolished by the Soviets"; to create a common information area Romania-Moldova.

"All these measures are fully compatible with the Declaration adopted by both Chambers of the Romanian Parliament on March 27, 2018, in which we stated with full clarity and responsibility that we stand ready to respond positively to the Moldovan Romanians' organic desire to unification [with Romania]. Solutions do exist! We need a political will for their realization and we need politicians understanding that we speak about the national interests and Romania's third goal after our integration with NATO and EU - the Re-Unification that must be prepared by implementing the above-mentioned solutions", stated Codreanu.

Infotag's dossier: Constantin Codreanu, an ardent unionist, was elected to the Parliament of Romania in 2016 on the slate of the Popular Movement party [Traian Basescu's]. Born and raised in Moldova, Codreanu was one of the leaders of the Civil Platform "Actiunea 2012", uniting a number of Moldovan and Romanian non-governmental organizations supporting the idea of unification [Unirea] of the two countries. Later on, he came to head the National Unity Bloc (BUN) uniting some 30 non-governmental organizations supporting, and working actively for, the Unirea idea. In the Romanian Parliament he represents the interests of the Romanian diaspora in foreign countries. In the spring of 2018, he ran for Chisinau Mayor as the candidate of the National Unity Party (PUN), but polled merely 4.55% votes.
