CHAIRMAN OF MOLDOVAN ACCOUNTS CHAMBER VISITS EUROPEAN COURT OF AUDITORS

Chairman of the Moldovan Accounts Chamber Marian Lupu visited the European Court of Auditors on Wednesday at the invitation of its President Klaus-Heiner Lehne. According to the Accounts Chamber, this is the first visit of head of Moldova’s control and revision structure to the ECA.

At the meeting with high-ranked European colleagues, Marian Lupu told about the role of the external public audit in ensuring proper public finance administration, the procedure of the agency’ moving from control to audit, the cooperation with external development partners and donors within programs and projects, implemented in Moldova, as well as about Chamber’s problems and plans.

The participants of the meeting agreed on the importance of ensuring institution’s independence, as a vital element for continuous functioning of the higher audit agency. During the discussion of cooperation conditions, Marian Lupu proposed to direct to the ECA the Moldovan Accounts Chamber’s reports about audit in projects and programs, implemented with attraction of European funds. According to the press release, the initiative was applauded by European officials who pointed at the importance of such cooperation.

During the visit, other cooperation opportunities were discussed, such as the participation of Accounts Chamber employees in trainings, seminars, specialized conferences, organized by the European Court of Auditors.
