PAS LEADER SAYS THAT RIGHT-CENTRIST PARTIES SHOULD NOMINATE ONE PRESIDENTIAL CANDIDATE

20 december, 2019

Party of Action and Solidarity Chairperson Maia Sandu believes that all right and centrist forces in Moldova should try and nominate one common candidate for the end-2020 presidential election, “and the PAS will spare no effort to put such scenario into life”.

Speaking on the local television on Thursday night, Sandu said that “the Right parties should demonstrate all their wisdom to prevent political cannibalism and to hold a civilized election campaign”.

“It is clear to everybody who presents the greatest danger for Moldova, and this danger is not in the Right-Centrist segment. The danger comes from the Party of Socialists and first and foremost from its informal leader, President Igor Dodon”, presumes the former Moldovan Prime Minister.

Commenting on chances for consolidation of the Right and Centrist forces, Sandu remarked that there is yet enough time for resolving existing problems. In this connection, she welcomed the attempt being made by pro-Romanian unionist parties to create a ‘united front’ for the forthcoming elections on the Liberal Party’s initiative.

Maia Sandu said that the PAS is open to discussions and has already entered into dialog with other parties, “whose electorates also want to live in the conditions of democracy, in a law-governed state with powerful state institutions”.

In her words, it is early yet to speak about her participation in the presidential election: “We are analyzing this question. But presently we should rather focus on consolidation of our party and of right-centrist forces”.

“We must make all within our powers to prevent Igor Dodon from receiving a second presidential mandate because this man is building his own vertical of authority, demonstrating a definite intention to control state institutions. But Moldova does not need this”, stated Maia Sandu confidently.
