23 december, 2019

The agreement with Russia on providing US$300-million credit to Moldova may be ratified by the Parliament in February 2020, said President Igor Dodon at a press conference after the Monday’s meeting with Speaker of the Parliament Zinaida Greceanii and Prime Minister Ion Chicu.

Summarizing his visit to Moscow Dodon said that during his meeting with Russian President Vladimir Putin they discussed the possibility of providing the credit for implementing infrastructural projects in Moldova.

“It is about the credit, requested by the Moldovan Government for launching large infrastructural projects at the beginning of the next year. The principled decision has already been adopted, while in January it should be discussed at the level of representatives of the two countries’ ministries of finance in order that at the beginning of the parliamentary session in February this agreement to be ratified”, the president said.

According to him, the conditions of credit provision resemble with those Moldova is getting financing from Romania, the European Bank for Reconstruction and Development and the European Investment Bank.

Besides, Dodon refuted information about the fact that the Russian credit will be directed to building of new airport in Moldova.

As Infotag has already reported, president said in early December that negotiations with Russia on the credit line will end before the end of the year. “The conditions for credit providing should be equally attractive as in case of credits, provided by our Western partners, among which the EBRD and the EIB, which provide financing for infrastructural projects with the interest rate of up to 1.5%”, the president said.
