PRESIDENT TO TAKE FLOOR AT PACE SESSION, PREMIER TO PARTICIPATE IN EAES SUMMIT

27 january, 2020

President Igor Dodon will address to the Parliamentary Assembly of the Council of Europe (PACE) session, which is taking place in Strasbourg on January 27 through 31.

After the Monday’s traditional weekly meeting with Prime Minister Ion Chicu and Speaker of the Parliament Zinaida Greceanii, he said to journalists that he will also answer to all the PACE MPs’ questions.

“Within my visit to Strasbourg, I plan to meet with Council of Europe Secretary General Marija Pejcinovic Buric, with Chairperson of the PACE Liliane Maury Pasquier, chairpersons of committees, including President of the Venice Commission Gianni Buquicchio. Also, meetings with some ambassadors accredited in the PACE are provided in my visit agenda”, Dodon said.

According to him, Prime Minister Ion Chicu will participate in the meeting of heads of governments of the Eurasian Economic Union [of Russia, Belarus, Kazakhstan, Armenia and Kyrgyzstan, EAES], which will take place in Kazakhstan at the end of the week.

“This week, Prime Minister Ion Chicu is taking part in events for commemorating the Nazi victims, which are held in Poland. At the end of the week he will go to Kazakhstan to participate in the sitting of EAES government heads. It is for the first time when Moldovan premier is taking part in such a sitting within the EAES, where Moldova has a status of observer”, Dodon stressed.

As Infotag has already reported, Moldova was granted the status of observer in the EAES in May 2018. Back then, Speaker of the Parliament Andrian Candu stated that President Igor Dodon participated in the EAES Board sitting in Sochi as a physical person and the signed documents do not have legal force for Moldova. The then Premier, incumbent leader of the Democratic Party Pavel Filip stated that the Government will not be financing the republic’s participation as observer in the EAES. Over the recent two years, only President Igor Dodon and his advisors participated in the EAES events. After the formation of Ion Chicu’s Government in November 2019, the Moldovan leadership stated that the republic will be actively participating in the EAES and its structures, including the Eurasian Development Bank.
