MPs WHO LEFT DPM WERE INFLUENCED FROM OUTSIDE – PARTY CHAIRMAN

20 february, 2020

Six deputies, who announced about resigning from the Democratic Party, are pawns in someone else’s game, while the decision was taken under pressure from outside, said DPM Chairman Pavel Filip at the Wednesday evening press conference.

He alluded that his predecessor Vladimir Plahotniuc may have influenced on his ex-colleagues.

“The honorable chairman of the DPM Dumitru Diacov said they followed the sponsor. Ask him who would he been referring to”, Filip said, avoiding saying the name of DPM ex-chairman.

According to him, the DPM is not upset at all about the resignation of a group of MPs from the faction, as the diaspora should have its representatives in the Parliament.

“The Democratic Party is not holding any negotiations on the creation of coalition. If such decision is taken, it will definitely be done transparently at the sitting of the National Party Council with participation of all DPM members. It is obvious that this was just a pretext, while the real motifs are completely different”, he said.

According to Democrats’ leader, the former colleagues should have expressed their thoughts to the party leadership personally and to try to change the situation from inside, because this is how it is done, when someone really cares about the team.

“I regret that in the crisis situation in summer 2019, some of these colleagues were even absent from the country. They absolutely have not participated in the election campaign of the local elections, in the process of party strengthening, when we together with colleagues were visiting all the territorial organizations with calls to unity. Perhaps they wanted to stay clear of the DPM, hoping that the party will split, but they became highly active when this did not happen”, he noted.

Filip expressed regret about the fact that the colleagues’ desire to defend the European development vector and the Dniester conflict veterans appeared immediately upon the sitting of the National Political Council, when some members of the party were not granted the posts of vice chairpersons.

“Let me remind that on behalf of the party I condemned the statements of Minister of Foreign Affairs and European Integration Aureliu Ciocoi in the very first day, while those colleagues kept silence. There are differences between us, but these are not connected with the country development vector, as the DPM remains a pro-European party. The differences in our approaches concern the internal democracy in the party, the way of financing, as well as the way of policy making in the country”, he said.

Answering to the question about the Monday’s meeting with Socialist MPs, the country president and the prime minister, the Democrats’ leader said that the DPM was represented only by members of the National Bureau.

“We are not obliged to inform all the party members about such meetings, there were just members of the National Bureau – party vice-chairpersons. There are no negotiations on creating a coalition or getting posts in the Government. However, we expressed a vote of confidence to the Government and we should be aware of how it is working. If we start any negotiations on forming the coalition, we will announce about this”, Filip stressed.
