IF DODON IS RE-ELECTED PRESIDENT, PRIME MINISTERIAL POST MAY BE GIVEN TO DEMOCRAT, PRESUMES MP SERGIU SIRBU

27 february, 2020

If President Igor Dodon wins the presidential election due in late-2020, then the prime ministerial post may well return to the Democratic Party, presumes MP Sergiu Sirbu, one of the 6 parliamentarians from the Pro Moldova group, who divorced the Democratic Party on February 19.

The ex-Communist and now ex-Democrat Sirbu said on the local television last night: “An alliance of the Party of Socialists (PSRM) and DPM already exists, no matter officially or not, so voting in the Parliament is well agreed, and appointments to various posts go on smoothly”.

“That is precisely why we [6] refused to take part in this political bargaining, and left the DPM. Now the alliance is preparing a necessary soil, and soon we all will hear an official statement about the creation of a parliamentary alliance. That will surprise nobody because work in this direction has been under way for quite long by now”, said Sergiu Sirbu.

Asked if the Socialists will agree to return Pavel Filip to the prime ministerial post, Sirbu reminded that, actually, the Pro Moldova group has been isolated from decision-making.

“But according to the information available with us, the two party leaderships are discussing this question namely the Democrats will not nominate their candidate for the presidential election and, as a reward, the Democratic Party will receive several ministerial portfolios. Moreover, if Igor Dodon wins, the Democrats may receive even the prime ministerial post. I’ve heard about such a scenario. But let’s wait and see. And we will see if the Democratic Party will yet exist in half a year”, said Sergiu Sirbu.
