EU DELEGATION HEAD INDIGNANT WITH DISINFORMATION SPREADING IN MOLDOVA

23 march, 2020

Ambassador Peter Michalko, Head of the European Union Delegation to Moldova wrote on the European Union delegation website and on his page in social networks that he is discontented with the fact that false information keeps being invented and spread in Moldova even in conditions of the state of emergency.

“I saw with disappointment that even in these difficult times, disinformation is still invented and spread. This is the case with the fake news about alleged letter from former Prime Minister Maia Sandu to a member of the European Commission that would put the European Union in a negative light in the eyes of the Moldovan people”, the diplomat wrote.

He wrote that this is a disgusting, totally made up and unfounded allegation and its authors and those who are spreading it are trying to discredit the EU and bring additional uncertainty in the society.

“The European Union will continue to provide its support to the people of the Republic of Moldova. Our relations with the Republic of Moldova remain based on the Association Agreement and the DCFTA, and the principle of strict conditionality continues to be part of our cooperation”, Michalko wrote.

As Infotag has already reported, last week an article appeared on an internet portal, which was saying that Chairwoman of the Party of Action and Solidarity (PAS) addressed to a European Commissioner with a request to suspend the provision of financial assistance to Moldova. The article was citing a letter, which proved to be fake. After this was established, the article was removed from the internet, while Maia Sandu announced about her intention to address to court in this regard.
