PAS ADDRESSED TO PGO ABOUT ATTEMPT TO INTRODUCE CENSORSHIP ON TV

27 march, 2020

The Party of Action and Solidarity (PAS) complained to the Prosecutor General’s Office about Chairman of the Audiovisual Coordinating Council Dragos Vicol on Thursday.

The address says that the reason was the ACC decision dated March 24, which says that during the state of emergency, all the presenters, moderators and editors (who are working on Moldovan TV channels) should unilaterally renounce the expression of their personal opinion, as well as the free formation of opinions in relation to the coronavirus pandemic both at the national and the international levels. The decision concerns all the news programs, debates (talk shows), which touch upon the situation and the consequences of the Covid-19 pandemic.

In this connection, the PAS demands the PGO to investigate Vicol’s actions in relation to the Criminal Code article “Abuse of power or abuse of official duties” – the offense that is punishable with 6 to 10 years and with prohibition to hold public posts of about 10-15 years.

“Nobody has the right to violate the main human rights and the democracy, especially in the current difficult times for the Republic of Moldova and the entire world”, the PAS statement says.
