IGOR DODON EXPECTS PANDEMIC PEAK IN MOLDOVA IN MID-APRIL

27 march, 2020

President Igor Dodon presumes that the peak of the COVID-19 pandemic should be expected in about mid-April.

In the course of his traditional weekly live Q&A communication with citizens on his YouTube channel and social networks held every Friday morning, Dodon said: “We forecast that by April 10 to 15, we may come to have 1500 to 2000 infected people. The Moldovan health system is ready to withstand this challenge. For this, we have substantially equipped bed facilities at hospitals, and we have enough medical personnel and medicines. We are continuing the preparation. Everything depends on us. If we behave responsibly, if we follow doctors’ recommendations and observe the introduced restrictions, I guess we will be able to go through this crisis quicker and easier”.

He reminded that on the President’s proposal, the military are now helping the police to control the observance of sanitary discipline and restrictions introduced: “Our military have come out into streets. They are prohibited to carry weapons. They are simply assisting the police to check the fulfillment of state of emergency rules and measures”.

The head of state proposed to prohibit citizens to come out of homes at nights, from 11 pm to 5 am, “and I hope the National Commission for Emergency Situations will approve such decision without a delay. This is absolutely necessary for overcoming the crisis”.

Dodon said: “Next week we are beginning to test medical employees, Border Police and Customs Service officers for COVID-19 presence. We hope to test some 10 thousand health sector employees, with repeat analyses to be done after a certain time”.
