PAS MP SAYS COUNTRY CANNOT MOVE ON WITH INCUMBENT PARLIAMENT

08 july, 2020

MP Sergiu Litvinenco of the Party of Action and Solidarity, who addressed to the Constitutional Court concerning a possibility to hold presidential and parliamentary elections on one day, believes that with such a parliament the country just cannot move on.

He stated at a press briefing on Tuesday: "I really don't think that Moldova has a chance for development under the guidance of the Parliament elected in the image and likeness of Plahotniuc".

He has calculated that the earliest day when it will be possible to dissolve the Parliament, as was ruled by the Constitutional Court today, will be December 24, 2020, when a new (or old) President assumes office.

PAS MP Dumitru Alaiba presumes that the Constitutional Court's decision means the following for him and his party comrades: "First it is necessary to overthrow Dodon - certainly by means of a presidential election, after which - to throw Socialists out of power, for they are too many in the forum [36 MPs in the 101-member Parliament]".

"However, there is a drawback in this scenario: Most probably, Dodon will be present in the new Parliament. If he loses this November's presidential election, he will take part in the snap parliamentary election next spring on the Party of Socialist's ticket. He just has no other way. Besides this, parliamentary immunity will be indeed a very useful thing to shield him from a punishment for what he had done in all those years", believes the opposition politician.
