GOVERNMENT WILL NOT RESIGN AT THE REQUEST OF THE OPPOSITION- PRESIDENT IGOR DODON

08 july, 2020

The Government will not resign at the request of the opposition, President Igor Dodon said on Tuesday evening on NTV-Moldova channel.

“The opposition is putting pressure on the Government, seeking its resignation. If they want, there are legal procedures, that is a vote of no confidence in Parliament. Unable to dismiss the Government, the opposition is putting pressure on the Government to resign. But the Government will not resign at the request of political opponents”, Dodon stressed.

The President called on the opposition deputies to “return to Parliament so that the Prime Minister would present laws approved by the Government by taking responsibility before the Parliament”.

“People are waiting for these laws, which are aimed at paying social assistance, raising salaries for doctors, helping businesses”, the head of state said.

Dodon reminded that “the Constitutional Court ruled that elections can only take place after the presidential election, in February-March 2021”.

“Before that, it is necessary to ensure the management of the country. I have already invited parliamentary parties to consultations. If there is the slightest opportunity to discuss with the parties the possibility of normal governance of the country before the parliamentary elections, I will take advantage of it”, the President said, emphasizing that “consultations can only be with the Party of Socialists and the Democratic Party, which are members of the ruling coalition, and with opposition PAS and Platform DA Parties.

“There will be no negotiations with the defectors and those who bought the deputies, creating their own group in Parliament. Early elections are needed to clear Parliament of these oligarchic canned food”, Dodon stated.
