PREMIER CHICU CALLS ON POLITICAL PARTIES TO LET CEC WORK IN PEACE

21 september, 2020

Moldova Prime Minister Ion Chicu has called on political parties to stop attacking the Central Election Commission.

The Premier stated to journalists on Monday morning following a weekly working meeting of the country’s leadership [President, Parliament Speaker and Prime Minister]: “The leaders of some parties would not stop their incessant attacks against the CEC. I am calling them not to do this and not to provoke an election results distortion by pressing on Commission members. The CEC personal composition was approved in 2019 and not specifically for this approaching presidential election”.

Ion Chicu said that he has already informed some foreign diplomats about the issue, and will yet inform the observers who will come here to work at the November election.

The Premier also said that pandemic-related problems are appearing at the organizing and opening of polling stations both in Moldova and in foreign countries.

“Nearly 40% polling stations in Moldova are traditionally unfolded in school and kindergarten premises. This year, we will have to prolong the autumn vacations in order to carry out a thorough disinfection of the premises after the elections”, said the Premier.
