THE PRESIDENT OF MOLDOVA CONSIDERS THAT IN THE CURRENT ELECTION CAMPAIGN, PEOPLE ARE LESS INTERESTED IN GEOPOLITICS

29 octomber, 2020

On Thursday, October 29, President Igor Dodon said during his weekly live communication with citizens that in the current election campaign, people are less interested in geopolitics.

"The specificity of this election campaign is that people are less interested in geopolitics. They ask fewer questions about who to be with - with Russia or with the West? This is because citizens have realized that they need to be friends with everyone. Our opponents, including in this campaign, say that we need to go only with the West, and we need to get help from the West. And we say - "Give us a bait - technologies, investments and the ability to export and we can handle it ourselves." When asked whether we need to advocate for Russia or for the West, I answer -"We need to be for Moldova," Dodon said.

The President stressed that "it is necessary to maintain a balance in foreign policy."

"It is necessary to conduct a balanced foreign policy and this is possible only if the current president wins the elections and continues to be the head of Moldova. Then we will be friends with both Russia and Europe. And if our opponents win, or rather one of them, since the rest have no chance in these elections, we will have a one-sided foreign policy. And then there will be destabilization, chaos, the suspension of all started social and infrastructure projects," the official noted.
