SOCIALISTS NOT GOING TO LEAVE COUNTRY WITHOUT FUNCTIONAL GOVERNMENT

01 december, 2020

The Party of Socialists (PSRM) "realizes its responsibility before Republic of Moldova citizens and is not going to leave the country without a functional government". That was how the PSRM reacted to President-Elect Maia Sandu statement that she is allegedly not ready to assume responsibility for a normal development of events in Moldova "with such a Government".

The Socialists presume that either Maia Sandu's electoral pledges were simply a deceit of the electorate, or she is simply scared to assume state power and responsibility in such a difficult pandemic period.

The PSRM maintains that an early parliamentary election is "absolutely necessary", but only after pandemic crisis overcoming because citizens' health and life must be above party interests.

"If Maia Sandu believes she is capable of managing this crisis, then she should do it now, as she promised to her electorate, and not afterwards", the PSRM leadership wrote in its reaction document.

The Socialists believe that "Two weeks after elections, is too early a time yet for the president-elect to start avoiding her duties, for finding justifications to her interference, and for demonstrating a proud reaction, placing a snap election above citizens' health and lives".

The PSRM wrote it is ready to support the government, which Maia Sandu may propose, "if only it is able to assume responsibility for governing the country".

"So far, however, we believe that the incumbent [Ion Chicu] Government works professionally and with full responsibility, doing everything possible to curb the pandemic. This Government has managed to keep situation in Moldova under control, so it must bear responsibility for tackling the crisis until the appearance of another team that would be supported by the Parliament", wrote the Socialists.
