ION CHICU CONFIRMED THAT 10 SECRETARIES WERE FIRED AT THE LAST GOVERNMENT MEETING

24 december, 2020

Acting Prime Minister Ion Chicu, who announced his resignation on Wednesday, confirmed that at the last government meeting on December 22, 10 state secretaries (deputy ministers) in various ministries were dismissed. As Infotag reports, he announced this on December 23 evening on TV8 channel.

He said that they filed resignations on their own initiative.

“I offered them to stay, but they refused. This is their right. You can't impose such things,” Chicu noted.

The official confirmed that all secretaries of state have resigned from the Ministry of Health, Labor and Social Protection.

Answering the questions of the journalist, Chicu made it clear that he could refuse to perform duties until the formation of a new government.

“According to the legislation, the resigned government remains in force until the formation of a new cabinet. For this period, the powers of the government are limited. We have provided everything for the state to be functional for this period. Will I continue to perform duties or not - we'll see,” acting Prime Minister stated.

According to him, “it depends on the results of the meeting with President Maia Sandu, who takes office on December 24.”

“Our meeting did not take place the day before. It was for objective reasons, more - through my fault,”said the current prime minister.

Chicu stressed that he had just recovered from the coronavirus and did not want to put the new president at risk.

“I passed the test and expected the result yesterday. The result is already negative, we will meet and discuss,” Chicu explained.

At the same time, he made it clear that, most likely, he would not agree to perform duties further and would decide to leave. According to him, Deputy Prime Minister, Finance Minister Sergiu Puscuta and Minister of Economy and Infrastructure Anatol Usatii can also do the same.
