DEMOCRATIC PARTY HONORARY CHAIRMAN CONSIDERS THAT PRESIDENT HAS NO OTHER NO OTHER WAY OUT BUT TO NOMINATE PREMIER

14 january, 2021

The president, according to the Constitution, has no choice but to nominate a candidate for the post of prime minister. As Infotag reports, Dumitru Diacov, the honorary chairman of the Democratic Party, said this on the air of TV8channel on Wednesday evening. Earlier, President Maia Sandu said that “any nomination of candidates and attempts to form a government will only lead to wasting time.”

“Early elections are one of the opportunities to carry out the reconfiguration of the parliament and government. However, elections cannot be the main goal. The initiative to nominate a prime minister is the prerogative of the president. If there is a parliamentary majority, she consults and proposes a suggested candidate, or proposes another. If not, the President must, on her own initiative, propose her own candidate. We have a Constitution, and I am sure that Sandu does not want to violate it,” Diakov stated.

He believes that the moment has come when the president should become an example for others, that it is necessary to observe the Basic Law. The Democrat also considers that if the Constitutional Court approves the idea of parliament self-dissolution (which the PAS Party deputies have addressed to it), then this may create a precedent that future heads of state can turn to at will.
