PRESIDENT NAMED FOREIGN POLICY’S PRIORITIES - ECONOMIC DIPLOMACY, RELATIONS WITH DIASPORA, CONSULAR SERVICES

15 january, 2021

President Maia Sandu has named the priorities of foreign policy - economic diplomacy, relations with the diaspora and high-quality consular services. As Infotag reports, the President announced this in her address to the diplomatic corps of the Republic of Moldova on Friday.

“The main goal of our foreign policy will be the development of a foreign policy in the interests of citizens. This is not just a slogan. This is the essence of foreign policy. The pandemic has shown us a lot. Our citizen, even if he is far from the country, needs us, needs Moldova,” Sandu stated.

A key foreign policy priority, she said, is “to provide the prerequisites for domestic development - reforms, the fight against corruption, overcoming the COVID pandemic and the economic consequences of this pandemic.”

“I will start with economic diplomacy: here I want to note the need to promote products from our country. We have very high quality goods, we have free trade zones with the EU and the CIS, and we must constantly make efforts to promote our exports. Export promotion means job creation. I know that economic diplomacy is often a kind of auxiliary branch for diplomatic services in many countries. But I would like to note that no country could become stable and prosperous without active and effective economic diplomacy,” the head of state stressed.
