PRESIDENT MAIA SANDU WILL NOT NOMINATE PREMIER CANDIDATE UNTIL THE COURT DECISION ON THE POSSIBILITY OF PARLIAMENT SELF-DISSOLUTION

18 january, 2021

President Maia Sandu will not nominate a prime minister until the Constitutional Court (CC) decides on the possibility of parliament's self-dissolution. As Infotag reports, she said this during the program “Friday with Anatolie Golea” on the RTR-Moldova TV channel.

“We appealed to the Constitutional Court regarding the possibility of dissolving the parliament. We believe that this is possible if the Constitutional Law is adopted - by two-thirds of the votes of the parliament members. We will wait for the CC decision,” Sandu stated.

The President stressed that she would not talk about other scenarios until the CC decides on this.

“We will act depending on the decision of the Constitutional Court. I have a team, and I can nominate a candidate for the post of prime minister who will form the government. But the government needs political support in parliament. There is no such support in the current parliament. This means that the nomination of a candidate for the post of prime minister, attempts to form a government - all this leads to a loss of time,” the head of state believes.
