RENATO USATII URGES PRESIDENT SANDU TO ACT MORE ACTIVELY TO DISSOLVE PARLIAMENT

19 january, 2021

Partidul Nostru (Our Party, OP) Chairman Renato Usatii believes that President Maia Sandu ought to act more resolutely and actively to dissolve the incumbent Parliament and not to be led by the nose by ex-president Igor Dodon. Usatii stated this in his online address to citizens, commenting on the Constitutional Court’s conclusion that a self-dissolution of the Parliament is impossible.

“After the Constitutional Court’s decision, the only possibility to cause a snap election is the nomination by the President of such kind of a candidate for prime minister, for whom the Socialists and Sor Party would not dare to vote. There is no other variant”, stated Renato Usatii.

In his opinion, presently the situation is developing according to Dodon’s scenario because ever since the presidential election [last November 15] Maia Sandu has not made whatever serious actions for dissolution of the Parliament.

“If Sandu has not yet given up her intention to achieve a snap election, she must act energetically. Sandu has two options: either she nominates a candidacy for premier unacceptable for Dodon and Ilan Sor and thus achieves an early parliamentary election, or she nominates a candidate for whom the parliamentary majority will vote, and the situation will be further developing according to the Dodon/Sor scenario. At the beginning of summer, they will dismiss the incumbent Government, and a snap election will be held when they wish – at best next October. And until then, the robbing of the country will be continuing”, said Renato Usatii.

He stressed he is ready to stand as candidate for prime minister, but is not insisting on this. In his words, a decision is to be taken by President Maia Sandu, “who must fulfill her electoral pledge to dissolve the incumbent corrupt Parliament by all means”.

OP leader believes that if in the nearest days Maia Sandu nominates a candidate for premier unacceptable for the parliamentary majority, then an early parliamentary election may take place in early June.
