DPM, DA AND PMG DEPUTIES MAINTAIN THAT PRESIDENT MUST NOMINATE CANDIDATE FOR PREMIER

20 january, 2021

Members of Parliament Dumitru Diacov (Democratic Party), Igor Munteanu (Platforma DA) and Vladimir Cebotari (Pro Moldova group) are convinced that the President must propose a candidate for prime-ministerial post, despite President Maia Sandu’s opinion that any such nomination or attempts to form a government lead to snap election postponement. The deputies presented their opinions in a live program cast on the local television on Tuesday night.

Dumitru Diacov stressed that the President must put forward a candidate for premier – either on the parliamentary majority’s proposal or on her own initiative, if it appears that there is no majority in the current Parliament. He is convinced that this question cannot be solved at the expense of a parliamentary faction, and that is exactly why the Democrats did not take part in consultations with the Party of Socialists.

“We can exchange opinions with other parties, but this should be better done with the participation of all factions, by sitting at one table. But now all of our parties have to wait until we hear the President’s word”, said the Democrat.

Igor Munteanu also sees no point in holding consultations with Socialists because he believes it is necessary to wait until President Sandu fulfils her constitutional duty.

Vladimir Cebotari offered an opinion that the initiation of an early parliamentary election should not be caused by the Parliament’s 3-month-long inactivity.

“There is a second way – through the impossibility to form a government. Presently the country has so many problems that could be solved by a full-fledged government – even if it has a short mandate”, said the deputy.
