PRESIDENT ACCUSES PSRM-SHOR COALITION OF OBSTACLING EUROPEAN SUPPORT TO MOLDOVA

21 january, 2021

President Maia Sandu has accused the PSRM-Shor coalition of creating obstacles to European support for Moldova. As Infotag reports, she said this on Wednesday at a briefing following her visit to Brussels.

The head of state is confident that “the European Union (EU) wants to help and to support the development of Moldova, but as a partner you can trust”.

“Therefore, it is our duty to ensure a stable and responsible government. As soon as this happens, all European funds will be open. The EU representatives are well aware of what is happening in Moldova. They know who is pushing the country into the abyss, and because of whom it is losing money and resources. They are well aware of the interests behind the latest decisions of the Ion Chicu government and the laws approved in December by the Party of Socialists (PSRM) and the Shor Party deputies,” Sandu stated.

According to the President, “these decisions are a trap and a time bomb for the new authorities.”

“European institutions want to see real progress in investigating the theft of a billion, other high-profile cases, and not pathetic excuses from the Prosecutor General's Office and other bodies,” Sandu stressed.

She believes that the current crisis can be overcome only through efforts, both within the country and in the international arena.

“The current parliament cannot propose any solutions, it has neither legitimacy, nor trust. MPs who are bought and sold will not be able to ensure the formation of a responsible government. Therefore, early elections should be held as soon as possible,” the official noted.

Sandu believes that “the EU assistance can only be obtained with a responsible parliamentary majority, which will amend the laws adopted by the Socialists and the Shor party deputies.”
