PRESIDENT SANDU SPECIFIES CRITERIA FOR SSC MEMBERS

Moldovan President Maia Sandu has specified criteria for selecting state officials for membership of the Supreme Security Council (SSC), and formulated the criteria in a Presidential Decree on amending the SSC membership Decree of 1997.

According to the new Decree, the Supreme Security Council necessarily comprises Parliament Chairperson, Prime Minister, Chairperson of the parliamentary Standing Committee for National Security, Defense and Public Order, Minister of Defense, Minister of the Interior, Information and Security Service (ISS) Director, Prosecutor General and President of the National Bank of Moldova.

According to the new Decree, the President may also appoint other high-ranked state officials as SSC members. For this category of officials, the Decree specifies precise criteria, which the potential candidates must meet, such as: the candidate must have the citizenship of Moldova, must speak the Romanian language, must be without a criminal record, and must have a flawless reputation.
