NATALIA GAVRILITA NOMINATED AS CANDIDATE FOR PREMIER - PRESIDENTIAL DECREE

28 january, 2021

President Maia Sandu has nominated financier Natalia Gavrilita as candidate for the prime-ministerial post.

Speaking at a press briefing on Wednesday, Sandu stated that she trusts the former Minister of Finance, whom she regards to be "a responsible and incorruptible professional". Despite the candidate nomination, President Sandu keeps insisting on holding an early parliamentary election.

"An early election is the only way out of the current political impasse. Citizens must be given the right to elect parliamentarians, who will form in the next Parliament a responsible majority to work in citizens' interests. Now the current parliamentary factions are receiving the possibility to prove in deeds if they really want a snap election or they only keep making empty statements and setting traps", said Maia Sandu.

Natalia Gavrilita is a graduate from the Law Department of Moldova State University and from John F. Kennedy Harvard Institute of State Management. For 3 years, she worked in London as an economist at the Oxford Policy Management - an international consultancy company tackling questions of the development of countries with low and medium levels of income (Tajikistan, Indonesia, Nigeria, occupied Palestinian territories etc.). She is an expert in the field of public governance reforms. Natalia Gavrilita was State Secretary at the Ministry of Education, Culture and Sciences, when Maia Sandu was Moldova's Prime Minister. Also, Gavrilita was Minister of Finance in the Sandu Government for 5 months in 2019. She is a Deputy Chairperson of the Party of Action and Solidarity, which was headed by Maia Sandu until her election President of Moldova.
