GOVERNMENT APPROVAL QUESTION MAY BE CONSIDERED NEXT WEEK – DODON

28 january, 2021

The Party of Socialists (PSRM) leader, ex-President of Moldova Igor Dodon believes that the Government approval question may be considered already next week.

Dodon wrote on his Facebook page upon learning that President Maia Sandu had nominated a candidate for prime minister: “President Sandu recollected her having constitutional duties, and with a delay, after one month of thoughts, she has nominated a candidate for the prime ministerial post, thus meeting the deadline set for her by the Socialists. Well, we are waiting for a Work Program and the personal composition of future Government to be proposed by this candidate (the Constitution allots 15 days for this). I guess the Parliament could well save time by considering this question already next week, when a new parliamentary Session will be opened”.

He reminded that this upcoming weekend, the PSRM Republican Council will convene for a meeting to discuss, among other “strategic questions”, the party’s position concerning voting or not voting for the new composition of the Government to be proposed soon.

“I think that the parliamentary Socialist faction should take part in a parliamentary hearing and debating of the Work Program and composition of the new Government to demonstrate to the people of Moldova the quality and professionalism of Sandu’s current/former team”, wrote the ex-president.

As was already reported by Infotag, on January 27 evening President Sandu nominated financier Natalia Gavrilita as candidate for prime minister. Gavrilita is a Deputy Chairperson of the Party of Action and Solidarity, which was headed by Maia Sandu until her election president.

Announcing the Gavrilita candidacy, Sandu stressed she is continuing to insist on non-approval of the government, so as to thus create conditions for dissolution of the current Parliament. The deputies of her PAS party have already stated they will not vote for the government in order to provoke an early parliamentary election.
