ACTIVISTS OF SEVERAL PARTIES PROTEST BEFORE CAC, DEMANDING MORE POLLING STATIONS ABROAD

10 june, 2021

Tens of activists of the Renato Usatii voting bloc, of Platforma DA and the National Unity Party (PUN) gathered before the Chisinau Appeals Court building to demand annulment of the Central Election Commission’s latest decision on the opening of only 146 Moldovan polling stations in foreign countries.

Yet before the Court had taken whatever decision, the protesters started waving their party flags and banners with party symbols, chanting loudly “Diaspora and Moldova!”, “Moldova!” and the like.

Victor Petrioglo, candidate for parliament from the Renato Usatii bloc, stated that on June 8, 2019, after oligarch Vladimir Plahotniuc’s flight from the country, then-President Igor Dodon stated that “the country has been liberated from the power of corruption, and we will now start living according to the Constitution and the law”.

“Now we can see that the Central Election Commission is opening in foreign countries only 146 polling stations, despite the Ministry of Foreign Affairs’ address to open more… One can have an impression that from the Plahotniuc’s trap we have found ourselves in another trap”, Petrioglo stated indignantly.

He was supported by another Usatii bloc candidate, Elena Gritco, who believes it is necessary to open 190 polling stations to let the Moldovan diaspora abroad vote in normal conditions.

“First the thieves stole the country from us. Now they want to steal the right to vote and to be elected”, stated Gritco.
