PRESIDENT MAIA SANDU SIGNS DECREE, NOMINATING NATALIA GAVRILITA PREMIER CANDIDATE
The vice-chairman of the PAS party, Natalia Gavrilita, has been appointed as a candidate for the post of prime minister. The decree was signed by President Maia Sandu on Friday.
“Gavrilita has two weeks to form a team and develop a government program, which she will present to parliament,” Sandu noted.
The President stressed that “I am fully confident that the proposed candidate will represent an incorruptible and professional team, that in a maximum of two weeks there will already be a new government in Moldova, and this will mean a new beginning for the country”.
“Citizens expect changes for the better, and this requires decisive action and competent decisions that highlight the interests of the people,” Sandu believes.
According to the Constitution, the candidate for the post of prime minister has 15 days at his disposal. After the founding meeting of the parliament, which took place the day before, the deputies of the ruling pro-presidential Party of Action and Solidarity (PAS) announced that a special session of parliament would be convened on August 5-6, in order to approve the government.
Natalia Gavrilita was born on September 21, 1977 in the village of Malaesti, in the Transnistrian region. Graduated from the Faculty of Law of the Moldavian State University in 2000, the School of Management I. John F. Kennedy - one of the faculties of Harvard University in 2005, received a master's degree in public policy.
In 2000-2003, she worked in the Bureau of Economic and Political Affairs at the U.S. Embassy in Chisinau, in 2005 - as an advisor in the office of the Vice-Chairman for Europe and Central Asia of the World Bank in Washington, in 2005-2006 - in the Economic and Financial Administration of the European Commission in Brussels. In 2007-2008, she worked in the Ministry of Economy and Trade and the Government of the Republic of Moldova.
In 2009-2013 - Senior Consultant, then Portfolio Manager for Methods of Analysis of the Statistics, Evidence and Accountability Program at Oxford Policy Management, an international development consultancy for low- and middle-income countries.
In 2013-2014, she worked at the Ministry of Education of Moldova. After the resignation of Maia Sandu from the post of Minister of Education, Gavrilita left for London, where in 2015-2019 she worked as the CEO of the Global Innovation Fund. In 2019, she returned to Chisinau, becoming Minister of Finance in the government of Maia Sandu. Since 2017, he has been a member of the Party of Action and Solidarity, since 2019 - the vice-chairman of the party.
He speaks Romanian, Russian, English, French and Spanish.
