MOLDOVA MAY COUNT ON EU'S ASSISTANCE ON ITS REFORM PATH

15 september, 2021

Moldova may count on the European Union's help on its way to reforms and to restoration bringing tangible results for citizens. Such was the essence of the statements made during the visit to Chisinau paid by Katarina Mathernova, Deputy Director General at the European Commission's DG Neighborhood and Enlargement (DG NEAR), and by Michael Siebert, EU Managing Director for Russia, Eastern partnership, Central Asia, Regional cooperation and OSCE.

The European Union Delegation to the Republic of Moldova wrote in its press release that during their meetings with the RM leadership, the representatives of international financial organizations and of the Moldovan civil society, the parties discussed the priorities of the new Government's reform program, in particular in the justice reform area, preparation for the forthcoming Eastern Partnership Summit and the Transnistrian conflict settlement topic. Michael Siebert said that the outcome of the recent parliamentary election in the republic has opened positive perspectives for further development of relations between the European Union and Moldova, which has returned onto the track of vitally important reforms, particularly in the spheres of justice and struggle against corruption.

Katarina Mathernova announced the first measures to be taken within the framework of the Economic Recovery Plan for the Republic of Moldova [which will mobilize up to 600 million EUR in macro-financial assistance, grants and investments, supported by blending and financial guarantees within next 3 years] with the provision of 36 million EUR as a grant to promote investment that underpin a sustainable and inclusive recovery from the COVID-19 crisis in the country.
