PREMIER: JUSTICE SYSTEM WILL BE REFORMED IN COOPERATION WITH EU AND CoE

Moldova will continue to cooperate with the European Union (EU), as well as the Council of Europe (CoE) and the Venice Commission (VC), “so that all elements of the justice reform meet European standards,” Prime Minister Natalia Gavrilita said this at a meeting in Brussels on Monday with the European Commissioner for Justice and Rule of Law Didier Reynders.

According to the official, “the government counts on the EU's support in reforming justice, which is reflected in the next agenda of the Moldova-EU Association, negotiations on which are nearing completion.”

At the same time, the Prime Minister informed about the measures that have already been taken or will be taken in the reform of justice - the development of a strategy for ensuring the independence and integrity of justice and an action plan in this area, amendments to the legislation on conflict of interest, verification of judges and prosecutors.

Gavrilita also “confirmed full openness to cooperation with the European Prosecutor's Office.” She invited the European Commissioner to visit Moldova “o start a high-level dialogue in the field of justice.”
