SIXTY-EIGHT MOLDOVAN VILLAGES STILL DE-ENERGIZED

Today morning, as many as 68 villages from ten Moldovan raions are still facing power outages, caused by the recent icing and last night’s snowfall.

According to a representative of the Civil Protection and Emergencies Service of the Ministry of the Interior, Liliana Puscasu, the most difficult situation is recorded in Causeni raion, where as many as 18 villages are partially or fully de-energized, in Stefan Voda – 13 de-energized populated areas and Anenii Noi raion – 8 de-energized villages. As many as 89 specialized teams of the RED Union Fenosa are currently working to mitigate the consequences of icing and of the snowfall.

According to the same source, all the national roads are currently open. As many as 180 specialized snow-removal units, as well as 300 employees of road maintenance services are working on the spot.

Puscasu also said that this past night, relief workers conducted 22 operations for unblocking the cars stuck on the national roads because of the snowfall.

Since the beginning of the week, Moldova has been facing bad weather. It began with a rainfall that was followed by a sharp cooling, which has led to the occurrence of icing on trees and wires. In consequence, many populated areas in the country have been de-energized. Moreover, on Tuesday night a snowfall started in the country. Meteorologists forecast that the air temperature will further drop, to minus 24 degrees Celsius this upcoming weekend.
