​MOLDOVAN PENSIONERS TO GET ASSISTANCE IN INTERNATIONAL DAY OF OLDER PERSONS

Moldovan pensioners will receive lump sum assistance on occasion of International Day of Older Persons, which is marked on October 1.

According to Ministry of Labor, Social Protection and Family, for this purposes the National Social Fund allocated 6 million lei. The beneficiaries of the assistance and its sum will be decided by local authorities.

In 2013, 5.8 million lei were allocated for the assistance, which was received by only 19.5 thousand old people, on average less than 300 lei (US$20.6) each.

On occasion of the International Day of Older Persons, the Ministry of Labor together with the HelpAge International Organization and the UN Fund for Population Activities will launch on Wednesday the campaign “Age Demands Action”, directed on creating positive image of the elderly. Besides, a number of other measures will be held on enhancing national solidarity and respect between generations.
