​ALEXANDRU TANASE RE-ELECTED AS CONSTITUTIONAL COURT CHAIRMAN

Constitutional Court Plenum unanimously voted for reelection of Alexandru Tanase as the Court Chairman for another three-year term. The decision has been taken by secret ballot.

Alexandru Tanase was the single candidate for the Constitutional Court Chairman. This is the second term of the mandate execution for him.

Alexandru Tanase was appointed judge in the Constitutional Court for 6 years in April 2011, previously holding the position of the Justice Minister. In October 2011 he was elected Chairman, when his predecessor Dumitru Pulbere was dismissed due to some political statements in media. Tanase was initiator of the Pulbere’s dismissal from the post.

In early 2014, Tanase said that he will not run for the post of Constitutional Court Chairman after expiry of his mandate in October. Back then, the press was writing that he will return back to politics and will head the People’s Party or another political entity. However, contrary to the predictions and promises, he did not return to the politics, but remained the Constitutional Court chairman.

Alexandru Tanase is 43. He graduated Faculty of Law in Alexandru Ioan Cuza University (Iasi, Romania). He worked as lawyer, Minister of Justice, was municipal council, Member of Parliament. Tanase is married and has two children.
