​MOLDOVAN PARLIAMENT TO BE ASPIRED BY 27 ELECTION RIVALS – CEC

On Thursday, the Moldova Central Election Commission completed the acceptance of applications and accompanying documents from political parties, movements, voting blocs and individuals wishing to get registered as candidates for the Moldovan Parliament to take part in the November 30 parliamentary elections.

CEC Press Secretary Rodica Sirbu told your Infotag correspondent that the Commission accepted the said documents from 21 political parties, one voting bloc and 5 independent candidates.

On Thursday evening, the CEC drew lots between 5 contesters who submitted their papers on the last permitted day – on October 30. So these five have received the following standings on the would-be ballot-paper: independent Valeriu Plesca – 23rd; independent Anatolie Doga – 24th, the Centrist Union of Moldova (CUM) – 25th; independent Petru Stamati – 26th; and the Party “Pentru Neam si Tara” [“For People and Country”] – the 27th.

The Central Election Commission says the ballot-paper is going to be approximately 0.5 meter long.

At the previous ordinary election held on November 27, 2010 the Parliament was aspired by 39 rivals. One year before that, at the early election of July 2009 – 8 contesters, and on April 5, 2009 – 17 organizations and independent candidates.

To receive seats in parliament, political parties must win minimum 6% ballots, voting blocs consisting of two parties – 9%, and of three or more parties – 11%, and independent candidates – minimum 2%.

The highest number of independent candidates was at the February 25, 1998 parliamentary elections – 60 persons, along with 15 parties and movements. However, over the whole history of the independent Republic of Moldova, not a single independent has ever got to parliament.
