​HIGHEST BRIBES IN MOLDOVA ARE PAID TO JUDGES

The highest bribes in Moldova businessmen are paying in courts – over 8.8 thousand lei, then comes the sphere procurement sector – up to 7 thousand lei and lawyers’ services – 4.1 thousand lei. These are results of the research “Corruption in Moldova: personal feelings and experience of businesspersons and farmers”, presented on Wednesday by Transparency International Moldova experts.

Representative of the organization Yanina Spinney said that farmers are also paying, though considerably less – around 2020 lei (6% more than in 2012).

Respondents said that justice system is the most corrupted in Moldova. This is the opinion of over 60% of entrepreneurs and 41.1% of ordinary citizens. On the second and third places in this anti-rating belong to legislators and representatives of executive power.

74.7% of farmers and 65.2% of businesspeople say that all the problems in Moldova can be solved with the help of money.

Over 83% of respondents find out about corruption cases from news on TV and radio, though only less than 32% trust the things they hear, while 49% partially trust (46% in 2012).

Both categories of interviewees believe most to tax inspectors, moreover the average rate of trust went up almost twice over 7 years – from 41% to 79.9%.

In comparison to 2005, the number of those, who have totally renounced to give bribes went up. If in 2005, 23% of farmers and 12% of businesspeople were giving bribes, then in 2014 these rates made 33.2% and 27.4% respectively.

Infotag’s dossier: The survey was carried out at the expense of the “Eastern Europe” Fund with the assistance of CBC-AXA specialists. It included 1106 owners of households, who responded to questions on September 13 – October 3, 2014 (statistical error is ±2.9%), and 457 businesspeople, who responded the survey questions on September 13 – November 25 (statistical error is ± 4.4%).
