​EU COUNTRY AMBASSADORS TAKING INTEREST IN INVESTIGATION OF HIGH-PROFILE CASES IN MOLDOVA

The ambassadors of the European Union member countries accredited in Moldova are showing interest to the progress of investigation of ‘loud cases’ that have a wide public response here. The investigation was the subject matter of the diplomats’ meeting with Director of the National Anti-Corruption Center (NACC) Viorel Chetraru on Tuesday.

The event was attended by the Ambassadors Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of France, Great Britain, the United States, Sweden, Poland, Slovakia, Italy, Romania, and by the Head of the European Union Delegation to the Republic of Moldova.

Chetraru informed his quests on the progress of the investigation, about the work priorities of the prosecutors and investigators taking part in the huge job. He said that profiled working teams had been formed to speed up the all-round investigation.

The NACC wrote in its press release that the foreign diplomats are taking interest in the Center’s investigation and voiced hope it would be promptly and professionally done. They stated readiness to render consultative assistance and support on some cases, saying that they are monitoring the NACC activities and are looking forward to hearing results of the investigations presenting public interest.

As already reported by Infotag, the European Union country representatives stated repeatedly the need for carrying out an objective and transparent investigation into the case of siphoning off considerable sums from three Moldovan banks. Other cases presenting strong public interest concern the case of state purchases in the public health sphere, the cases of National Tax Inspectorate ex-Director Nicolae Vicol, of ex-Minister of Health Andrei Usatii, and some other, whose investigations are taking longer than could be initially expected.
