08 february, 2016

The European People's Party of Moldova (EPPM) presented a program “Ten Steps for Diaspora” on Friday. It is directed to creation of conditions for improving the life of Moldovan citizens abroad, as well as for their returning home.

“Political parties should stop resorting to the help of Diaspora only in the period of elections or at registering of a new political project. Parties should permanently work with Diaspora, to listen to Diaspora ideas and promote its interests in order to achieve changes together. Our people abroad are country’s wealth, which many have forgotten about. They should be treasured, helped, so that they in their turn to contribute to Moldova’s reforming”, said EPPM Chairman Iurie Leanca at the presentation.

According to him, the Party aims to attract the Diaspora to participation in modernizing and Europeanization of Moldova. The proposed program implies, in particular, the creation of a Diaspora Ministry, bringing the youth back into the country, creation of centers for Moldovan citizens, who departed abroad, opening of more consulates with cheaper services.

The Program implies also providing of assistance to reintegration of Moldovans, who came home, development of a mechanism for representing the Diaspora in the Parliament.

“We also plan to create cultural programs for children from Moldovan Diaspora, to launch a program of lowering prices on parcels and money delivering, which will become safer and more accessible, to guarantee by law the social protection of Moldovans from Diaspora. At the same time, there is a desire to develop projects, which would give the opportunity to raise investments into the country from people, who live abroad, and the promotion of Moldova’s image abroad”, said one of document’s authors Victor Lutenco, who had headed the Bureau for Diaspora Relations in the Government in 2010-2014.
