DA PLATFORM PICKETING INTERIOR MINISTRY

06 may, 2016

About 100 members and supporters of the Civil Platform “Demnitate si Adevar” [DA, “Dignity and Justice”] and the Great Popular Assembly Council have picketed on Thursday buildings of the Ministry of the Interior (MoI), the Sectorul Centru court of Chisinau and the General Police Secretariat with the demand to release the detained protesters.

Member of the DA Platform and the Popular Assembly Council Vasile Nastase said that Democrat Vladimir Plahotniuc has laid his hands on all state institutions, including law enforcement bodies.

“People, who are making chaos and lawlessness in the country, prosecute Moldovan citizens, conduct searches at their houses, arrest them”,

“On Thursday morning, several protesters were detained and brought to institutions, where the youth who came to protest on April 7, 2006, had been brought”, the DA member said.

He said that instead of this, law enforcement should better do their work, seeking those, who stole money from banks and arresting Plahotniuc for his machinations.

Another DA and Council member Liviu Vovk said that searches have been conducted on Thursday morning in apartments of four April protest participants, who subsequently have been detained.

He maintains that fights on April 24 were provoked by athletically-built young men, who were apparently protecting the buildings in fron of which rallies have been conducted.

“Protesters asked them to go away, but they started to use tear-gas and truncheons against protesters. Law enforcement bodies are prosecuting those who were protesting in front of Plahotniuc’s buildings, but do not even think about seeking those, who have stolen money from banks”, Vovk said.

He called on diplomatic missions, accredited in Moldova, to contribute to combating Plahotniuc’s actions on appropriating state institutions.

Protesters demanded releasing of four detainees, as well as called on Moldovans not to be afraid and to come to protests.

The picket organizers also announced that a press conference will be organized in the Chisinau main square at 11:00 on Friday.
