YOUNG SPECIALISTS NEED JOBS AND INFORMATION ABOUT EMPLOYMENT – WB RESEARCH

27 june, 2016

Young specialists in Moldova need jobs and information about opportunities of education and employment, show the results of a research “From Aspirations to Occupations: the Role of Information in Educational and Labor Market Decisions in Moldova”, conducted by the World Bank in Moldova.

The research contains data about how schoolchildren and students take decisions, what information they use and whom they consult with, as well as what profession they regard as necessary for them.

Experts say that lack of good jobs is reflected in low level of population employment. Only 40% of adult population in Moldova is employed against 50-60% in European and Central Asia countries.

The low level of productivity in working places is the result of unofficial employment, which is about 30% of the employed population. Besides, 405 of Moldovan enterprises regarded the competence as an important problem in the field of development.

Parents are an important source of advice for students and schoolchildren, but at the same time parents said they feel unprepared to give a recommendation concerning employment.

Alex Kremer, the World Bank Country Manager for Moldova, said that given the population ageing and high level of migration, each worker is important for Moldova.

Information of the youth about opportunities in the labor market are a less costly way to create and proposing perspective jobs for citizens, Kremer said.

The research also provides recommendations on raising accessibility to and quality of information about education and labor market. Among recommendations there are: identification of children and young people’s needs and providing of corresponding information to them and their families; establishing of partnership relations with employers and creation of conditions for vocational guidance.
