​AMERICAN LAW COMPANY SAYS INVESTIGATION INTO THEFT OF A BILLION FROM MOLDOVAN BANKS HAS STARTED IN USA

The Frontier Solutions, an American law company, has reported that an investigation into the theft of a billion euros from Moldovan banks has been started in the United States.

This news is contained in the letter the company sent last weekend to Moldova’s Acting Prosecutor General Eduard Harunjen and National Anti-Corruption Center (NACC) prosecutor Adriana Betisor, who heads in Chisinau the investigation of the “theft of the century”.

“As you know, our law firm presents Mihai Gofman in his work with the official federal law-enforcement and the U.S. Department of Justice. Gofman is a witness in the continuing active criminal investigation in the USA into the theft of more than one billion US dollars from Moldovan banks”, said the letter, whose authors call Gofman a critically important witness in this investigation.

They called on Moldovan prosecutors to ensure that Gofman was not prosecuted or intimidated as a witness.

Two weeks ago, Mihai Gofman, the former Deputy Chief of the Money Laundering Prevention Service of the National Anti-Corruption Center (NACC), appeared on the local television with revelatory statements on the case of the theft of the billion euros from three Moldovan banks. In particular, Gofman stated that the chief beneficiary of the huge theft was the ‘executive coordinator’ of the Moldovan ruling coalition Vlad Plahotniuc, and the coordinator of the bank theft – businessman Sergey Yaralov, having American citizenship and real estate in the United States.

Last weekend, the Moldovan Anti-Corruption Prosecution Service was expecting Gofman, who had promised to return from the USA and give evidence to Moldovan prosecutors. However, he has not returned yet. According to some data, Gofman has been included into the U.S. governmental Witness Protection Program.

Our Party leader and Balti Mayor Renato Usatii stated on the local television last week that Vlad Plahotniuc and at least 10 persons from his nearest surrounding have been under the monitoring of the International Criminal Police Organization – the Interpol. Usatii stated also that now Plahotniuc has become in fact a persona non grata in America. The meetings, which Plahotniuc held earlier this year with prominent American politicians, were arranged through an expensive American PR agency.

“However, circumstances have changed for the oligarch so drastically that money is no more able to ensure him a favor in Washington political circles. At the moment, I can state with full responsibility that even if he triples fees to the lobbyists who drove him there, not a single serious American politician will ever agree to meet with him now”, stated Renato Usatii.
