​LUPU’S WITHDRAWAL FROM ELECTION RACE WAS A RESPONSIBLE AND LOGIC DECISION – VLAD PLAHOTNIUC

Commenting on Marian Lupu’s withdrawal from the election race, executive coordinator of the ruling coalition, Democratic Party Deputy Chairman Vlad Plahotniuc said that it was a responsible and logic decision.

“What I want to say is that Marian Lupu has performed well in this election campaign. Sociological polls, which were demonstrating low results of the Democratic Party at the beginning of the election campaign, did not correspond to the reality. DP has been and remains the most important and influential party on the Right-Centrist segment”, Plahotniuc wrote.

He added that though someone may be shocked by the DP’s decision to renounce participation in elections with its own candidate, for the party it is natural and logic.

“This decision was taken with taking into account the higher state interests and demonstrates the extreme polarization of forces in the political arena. For the DP, it is important to consolidate the European vector and make the country’s modernization irreversible”, Plahotniuc said.

According to him, had Democrats been guided by political egoism, Lupu would have had to participate in the campaign until the end.

“He had a real chance to get into the second round of voting. This would mean an intermediate result for the DP. But if there is a candidate, who has better chances to achieve the final success, to win at elections and preserve the country’s European course, we have to support this candidate. We demonstrated that the DP is able to take difficult and responsible decisions”, he said.

Plahotniuc stressed that Democrats have shown an absolutely new approach to the Moldovan politics.

“We have made a real step so that the right opposition candidate to succeed at elections, demonstrating maturity and responsibility”, Plahotniuc said, adding that the taken decision was agreed with members of the party, as well as with internal and external partners.
