GOVERNMENT TOUGHENS DEMANDS TO INFORMATION ABOUT FOOD PRODUCTS

19 january, 2017

Labels on goods will contain more information about the composition and quality of the product. The Government has approved on Wednesday a draft law on informing consumers about food products, developed by the Agriculture Ministry.

The document says that each label must contain information about the name of the produce, the list of ingredients used at its producing, weight, expiry date, storing conditions. If the product may cause allergy or contains special ingredients, this must also be written on the package.

According to Agriculture Minister Eduard Grama, the bill ensures a high level of consumer right protection.

The National Food Safety Agency was empowered to control the information on packages.
