​EU PROVIDES MODERN EQUIPMENT TO FORENSIC EXPERTISE CENTER

The European Union financed purchasing of modern equipment – computer complexes – for Moldova’s Forensic Expertise Center. The ceremony of equipment transmitting was attended by Ambassador Pirkka Tapiola, Head of the European Union Delegation to Moldova and Prime Minister Pavel Filip.

The Moldovan Premier said that one of his Government’s goals is to ensure citizens’ safety by means of strengthening public order.

“The Interior Ministry and its profile divisions play a key role in this process. The Ministry is undergoing reforms, based on officers’ professionalism. The providing of modern equipment by external partners is one more step towards modernizing the population security sphere”, Filip said, thanking the EU Delegation head for timely assistance and support.

Dactyloscopic, physic-chemical and light laboratories were purchased on EU funds.

According to the Forensic Center representative Grigore Dubenco, the first is designed for optimizing the process of seeking fingerprints in MoI database.

“Currently, this operation takes up to one minute. Before, the older equipment was seeking results up to three hours. Besides, the equipment allows scanning or checking the scanned images. Besides Chisinau office, there are five Center offices in different regions of the country, which are connected with the central computer, which accelerates the work of investigative brigades”, he said.

Expert Alina Negreanu explained that the physic-chemical complex may check drug samples, chemicals with their elements.

“The load of previous equipment was 2800 samples per year. Now, due to the new equipment, the testing will improve”, she said.

Center specialists pointed at the fact that the light laboratory allows checking for authenticity banknotes, passports, different certificates with protection elements.
