TEACHERS CAME TO RALLIES DEMANDING 20% SALARY RAISING

24 march, 2017

More than one thousand of teachers and scientific workers came out to a protest, organized by the Trade Union Federation of Education and Science (FSES) in front of the Parliament on Thursday, demanding to raise salaries in education by at least 20%.

“We cannot agree with only 10% increment. We will keep protecting our rights until our demands are fulfill”, said FSES Chairman Dumitru Ivanov at the rally.

The picketing lasted more than one hour, but nobody came out to protesters despite their appeals. Moreover, the Parliament plenary sitting did not take place at all. The protest will continue on Friday in front of the Government.

As Infotag has already reported, trade unions gathered teachers for rallies on January 17, demanding raising of salaries and decent living conditions for education workers. As a result, the Government created a working group and started negotiations.

Government partially satisfied the demands, in particular, preserved the complete salary to young teachers with reducing of pedagogic burden. But the main demand – the raising of salaries by 50% – has not been satisfied. The FSES stopped negotiations with the Government on March 10, as the authorities agreed to raise salaries only by 10% and starting from the new academic year.
