MoI TASK FORCE VETERANS TO COME OUT FOR PROTESTING ON APRIL 28

25 april, 2017

Retired officers from the Moldovan Ministry of the Interior task force units are going to stage street protesting on April 28 against their “unbearable material situation and poverty, against persecution by the incumbent authorities and against fabrication of phony criminal litigations against us”.

The Chairman of the Association of Task Force Veterans, Valeriu Chicu, stated at a news conference on Tuesday that it is but a mockery and humiliation from the Government’s behalf to appoint a monthly allowance of 100 lei (US$5) to such veterans of the 1992 Transnistrian armed conflict.

“This allowance must be at least 3 times greater – at least”, emphasized Chicu. “Besides, the Government must check the lists of armed conflict veterans because according to our estimates, minimum 10 thousand such veterans are but swindlers who have purchased their veteran documents for bribes”.

In his words, the National Prosthetic/Orthopedic Experimental Rehabilitation Center for veterans “has been transformed by its leadership into a shady business, a mom-and-pop shop”.

“Instead of rendering qualified medical assistance to veterans, the state-run enterprise is used for making profits for a handful of swindlers, who have privatized everything – from hospitalization and rehabilitation services up to the using of the Center bus for their selfish interests”, Chicu stated, adding that even with the health insurance policies on hands, the conflict veterans and MoI pensioners are not able to receive free medical services at this Center.

Chicu believes that the vets’ protesting will be joined by those citizens who do not share the authorities’ desire to introduce one-mandate electoral system in Moldova.

“We are not a political organization, but we are convinced that Prime Minister Pavel Filip must hear our demands and clear out the developments. Why on earth does the government not care about those who defended the country’s independence and who sacrificed their health for that?” wondered the Association Chairman.
