NBS PUBLISHES STATISTICAL BOOK “CHILDREN OF MOLDOVA”

On the eve of Children’s Day on June 1, the National Bureau of Statistics published a statistical book “Children of Moldova” with the assistance of UNICEF Moldova. The last statistical book of this kind was published five years ago in 2012. The new publication presents data for the beginning of 2016. According to them, share of children under 18 in the total number of Moldova population (3.553 million people) is 19.3% compared with 20.9% in 2010. In 2015, there were registered 38.6 thousand newborns, 53% of them were boys. More than 13 thousand children in Moldova are children with disabilities (2%). The number of convicted children in 2015 increased by 42% - up to 374: every seventh child committed an offense. 4172 children remained without parental care. 88 children were adopted by the Moldova citizens, and 10 children by foreigners.
