AFTER THIRD VERDICT PRONOUNCEMENT IT IS STILL UNCLEAR WHERE BEM MONEY HAS GONE - LAYWER

22 june, 2017

After announcement of already the third court decision on the case of Banca de Economii there is still no clarity where the money, stolen from the bank, has gone, said jurist Pavel Midrigan.

In an interview with Infotag, he said that he, just as many of Moldovan citizens, is not interested in how many years one or another person was convicted within cases on stealing money from banks.

"They say that more than 11 criminal cases on different episodes. After yesterday's announcing of the first-instance court decision on Ilan Shor case, I did not hear where is the money. Who will be returning 5 billion lei of stealing which Shor is accused? Who is their final beneficiary?", the jurist wonders.

He pointed at the fact that in the court decision there is no civil act on recovering the damage.

"Shor owns working enterprises. Will his property be confiscated or what?", Midrigan asks.

He reminded that Shor is already the third person convicted on the scandalous case of BEM.

"Before, there were former politician and ex-premier Vlad Filat and financier Veaceslav Platon. They also allegedly were involved in the case on credits in BEM. But where are the live money from the bank - this remains unclear even after the third verdict", he concluded.

Midrigan is sure that Shor will not be incarcerated so far.

"The challenging of the first-instance court may be dragged out for a year. The challenging of decisions in Moldova is not a fast process. Thus Shor will be put under notorious justice control without many problems", he said.
